Welcome to the very first issue of Library Links, EdUHK Library’s monthly newsletter.  We are thrilled to have this platform to communicate with our users and share our latest news, events and developments. EdUHK Library is not just a physical space, but a vibrant community of learners, researchers and scholars.  Through this newsletter, we hope to showcase our resources and services, highlight the achievements of our colleagues, and invite you to engage with us through various activities.

New Students Library Orientation: 22 August – 12 September 2023

We are delighted to meet our new students who embark on their academic journey with us at the Library.  We will offer 26 one-hour in-depth tours of Mong Man Wai Library to help you explore our facilities on different floors and find your favourite study spot.  The tours will be conducted in Cantonese, Putonghua and English. LibGuides are very useful resources for new students who are beginning their study at the University.  These online guides will provide you with a comprehensive overview of resources and services provided within and beyond the Library, and help you develop research skills to make effective use of library resources and services essential for your study and research.   Read More

Library goes cashless on 3 July 2023

Starting 3 July 2023, the Library no longer accepts cash payments at counters.  Payments to the Library can be made through various e-payment systems including Octopus, Visa, Mastercard, JCB, BoC Pay, Alipay, WeChat Pay and Union Pay.  Payments to Library can also be made online with Visa and Mastercard. Upgrades to library services and facilities

In this summer, the Library has upgraded a wide range of facilities to better support student learning which include new charging tables for tablets; new power outlets with USB power outlets on most study tables; new large 4K monitors, PCs, and more powerful notebooks in Discussion Zone; high-end notebooks with 2K monitors in VAM Production Centre and Creative Lab; PCs or notebooks at all Study Carrels on 4/F, etc.   Read More

Tip of the month: Looking for information for your assignment? Try iSearch!

iSearch is the one-stop search and discovery tool for finding books, journal articles, media resources, course readings, and even materials that the Library can get for you from our partner libraries through HKALL, Inter-library Loan and Document Delivery.  It is the easiest and the most reliable way to start your research for academic materials.  Watch this video to learn more.

New Publication

Stronger Together: Stories from Wan Chai, Eastern District and Southern District Schools


This book chronicles the history of Wan Chai, the Eastern District and the Southern District on Hong Kong Island from three viewpoints – population growth, urban planning and industrial development – giving a glimpse of Hong Kong’s development from a small fishing port to a modern metropolis.  The book discusses how schools were built near public and private housing estates, and the need for additional educational resources in all districts of Hong Kong due to urban development and population growth. Transformative Agreement with Cambridge University Press

EdUHK Library has entered into a transformative agreement (TA) with Cambridge University Press (CUP) to promote open access publication of scholarly research.  Through the TA, EdUHK members can not only access full-text contents of CUP journals like traditional subscriptions, academic colleagues of the University can also publish open access articles in CUP journals with article processing charges waived.   Read More

Results of recent surveys

2023 JULAC LibQUAL+ Survey : In collaboration with JULAC, i.e. all 8 UGC-funded university libraries, EdUHK Library has conducted the 5th JULAC LibQUAL+ online survey on 1 to 31 March 2023 to assess different aspects of library services and resources.  1,602 valid responses were received.  While full results with data from all 8 JULAC libraries will not be available until late 2023, preliminary summary report of EdUHK Library has been announced on 18 May 2023. Survey on Library Online Resources Usage Habits : As a follow up to the findings on electronic resources in LibQUAL+, the Library has conducted another survey on 2 May to 16 June 2023 to examine online resources usage habits of different categories of library users.  Results of this survey has also been announced on 31 July 2023. MMW Library opening hours extended to 10pm on Saturday during term time

Just a reminder, starting from 12 August 2023, the opening hours on Saturdays for 1/F to 4/F have been extended from 08:30-19:00 to 08:30-22:00.  Closing time of all library counters remains unchanged at 19:00.
