Online learning of nuclear power generation
Goals & purposes:
To allow students learn the physical concepts and the principles underlying nuclear fission, nuclear power generation, through animations, simulated experiments and videos.
Summary:
Nuclear power generation is an important topic for the modern society. Nevertheless, it is impossible to visit the core of the reactors in nuclear power plants and is dangerous to conduct experiment related to nuclear fission in laboratory. In this online module, students can learn through the essences of nuclear power generation through an animated cartoon video, conduct a simulated experiment, and visit the reactors through a video. Guiding questions in quizzes are designed to assess students’ understanding through the modules and the online experiments, and discussion forum is set up for the discussion of their view towards using nuclear power as an energy source.
