Goals & purposes:
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to
(1) describe the different characteristics of quantitative and qualitative studies
(2) analyse the different purposes, assumptions, and situations in which quantitative or qualitative approaches should be used; and
(3) design a mixed methods study that uses both quantitative and qualitative approaches
Summary:
This online unit is about the differences between quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research. Researchers usually use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method approaches depending on their research purposes. Each approach has its own strengths and weaknesses, depending on the situation.
