Learning RefWorks – the Web-based Bibliographic Management Tool
RefWorks is an online research materials manager to manage and store the information resources needed for your coursework and research. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to create an account, export and import references and citations, organize references into folders, insert in-text references and create a bibliography in APA or other citation styles into a Word document by using Write-N-Cite.
Finding Dissertations
Find out how you can locate dissertations and theses effectively from local and international universities that are relevant to your research work by using both Library and web resources. Database research skills for writing literature reviews will be presented, covering English and Chinese language materials.
Using Google Effectively for Academic Research
Learn how to master Google and unleash its power as a research tool for quality academic resources in the Web. Join this workshop and get hands-on practice for searching scholarly literature using Google, Google Book, and Google Scholar and how to integrate Google Scholar with RefWorks and other Library-subscribed electronic resources.
Avoiding Plagiarism and Citing Sources of Information
To cover the basics of academic honesty, this workshop will show you how plagiarism can easily be avoided in research and studies with different examples of using information ethically. Proper methods in writing APA format citations in research papers and assignments will also be demonstrated.
Discovering Journal Metrics
InCites Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Sources session of Scopus database are major platforms that give us figures and tools for research publication evaluation. We will focus on journal-level metrics, including journal ranking, journal impact factor, and other indicators offered by these databases. We will investigate what these indicators mean to research evaluation.
