Introducing Primo Research Assistant

We are excited to announce the launch of a new AI feature in iSearch: Primo Research Assistant! This innovative tool is designed to enhance your research experience, making it easier and more efficient.

What is Primo Research Assistant?

Primo Research Assistant is a generative AI research tool developed by Ex Libris (supplier of iSearch), aimed at enhancing discovery of library resources. It enables library users to perform research queries using everyday language and delivers AI-generated summaries with references sourced from the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index (CDI). This tool is designed to make research more intuitive and accessible for users.

How does Primo Research Assistant work?

The tool converts a user’s natural language question into a Boolean query using a large language model (LLM). The query will then be sent to the Central Discovery Index (CDI) to retrieve the results. The top results (up to 30) will be analyzed, and the five most relevant sources will be identified based on their abstracts and metadata. The LLM will then create a concise summary with inline references based on those top five results and deliver it to the user.

What are the advantages of using Primo Research Assistant?

Primo Research Assistant is useful for quick searches and provides a good starting point for your research. By combining generative AI with conversational discovery, it streamlines the research process. Users can avoid specific keyword searches and engage naturally to find trustworthy library materials, allowing them to navigate vast information efficiently for their academic needs.
