Library Skills Workshops

The Library offers a range of workshops for staff and students to acquire more essential library skills for studies and research. Students will get scores for the Experiential Learning and Achievements Transcript (ELAT) by joining library workshops. Please contact the Research and Learning Support Unit on 2948 6653 or email to libclass@eduhk.hk for more details.

Certificate

For students, a digital Information Literacy Certificate will be awarded under the “Information Literacy Award Programme” if you join three or more workshops in an academic year.
For PhD/EdD students or academic/teaching staff, all workshops are categorized as part of the Certificate Course “Introduction to Teaching Higher Education” under Theme IV: Learning and Teaching Support.

Discovering Journal Metrics

Offer an overview of journal-level metrics, focusing on journal impact factors and normalized metrics. The workshop explains popular metrics such as Journal Impact Factor (JIF) and CiteScore, their calculation methods, and their pros and cons. It also introduces the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Scopus databases as sources of citation metrics. Besides, it introduces normalized metrics like JCI, SJR, and SNIP, which provide a fair assessment of a journal's performance across disciplines.
