Books, Media and Teaching Resources
Faculty members are encouraged to take an active role in selecting appropriate library materials supportive of their curricula and in response to the changing information needs of their students. The resources recommended will be purchased subject to the availability of funds.
To facilitate selections, publishers’ catalogues are distributed to the Library Liaison Officers (LLOs) of academic departments for circulation to Academic Staff within the departments. Hotlinks to major publishers and book vendors can also be found on the Library Website. The Library’s Departmental Librarians and the Acquisitions Staff will provide additional supports on materials sourcing and bibliographic information verifications.
Serials
Academic Staff are welcome to recommend serials, standing orders or continuations not held by the Library. In general, duplicate subscriptions are not encouraged. Recommendations can be submitted through LLOs of their departments. If back issues are recommended, please state clearly the years, volume numbers and issue numbers required.
Recommendation Forms
Recommendation forms for books, media resources and serials are available from all service counters of the Library. Electronic versions of recommendation forms can also be downloaded from the Library Website. Online Book Recommendation Form is also available. Academic Staff may also submit book, media or serials recommendations online, followed by endorsement of their respective Library Liaison Officers.
When making recommendations, please provide as many details as possible on the recommendation forms and enclose related publishers’ catalogues or brochures if available. Please also specify the location where the materials should be placed, such as in Reserve Collection or in Tseung Kwan O Study Centre Library. Recommenders are advised to check items against Library iSearch for holdings prior to submitting requests for purchase.
For more information on library materials recommendation, please contact the Collection Development Librarian at extension 7418.
By Students and Non-academic Staff
Students and non academic staff are welcome to make recommendations for the purchase of academic books. Recommendations can be submitted via Online Book Recommendation Form with full details on the title, publisher and year of publication. Due to cost and continuous budget commitment, recommendations for journals, media resources and teaching resources should be made via Academic Staff. The Library will consider purchasing the recommended titles according to the Collection Development Policy and availability of funds.
Remark
The Library will not acquire or provide materials which may violate laws of Hong Kong, including the National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance.
