Revisions of Library Regulations: New Membership Types & Loan Renewals

The Library Management Committee in its 5 June 2017 meeting has endorsed the following amendments to the Library Regulations:

Library Membership for “Retired Staff” and “Departed Long-serving Staff” (effective 1 July 2017)
In recognition of the contributions made by retired staff and long-serving staff to the development of the University, library privileges will be offered to Regular Staff of all types (including academic, teaching, research and administrative staff) retired at age 60 or above, as well as departed Regular Staff of all types who have served the University continuously for 15 years or more.  Borrowing privileges for retired and departed long-serving staff will be one category below those for serving staff of the same type.  A one-time $50 EdU Card production fee and $500 deposit will be charged for each successful application.  Related Library Regulations including 3.1.6, 3.1.7, 3.1.8 (new), 3.8, 3.10 and 4.2 will be amended or added accordingly.  Please visit www.lib.eduhk.hk/info/about/regulation.html for further details.  The new arrangement will also apply retrospectively to all EdUHK/HKIEd staff retired or departed before 1 July 2017.  Application forms can be downloaded at www.lib.eduhk.hk/forms/index.html#forms.

Renewals of Library Materials (effective when the new library system is in operation)
Alma, the new library system which will be in operation in July 2017, will have a different arrangement of loan renewals.  Library Regulation 4.4.1 will therefore be amended in order to cope with Alma’s set up.  The maximum loan periods results from renewals will not be affected.  Instead of specifying the maximum number of renewals, the revised Library Regulation 4.4.1 will specify the maximum loan period after renewals.  There will also be a minor amendment to Library Regulation 4.4.2 in which “Library Catalogue” will be replaced by “Library System” to better reflect the evolution of the new library system.  Please visit www.lib.eduhk.hk/info/about/regulation.html#anchor4 for more details.
