EdUHK ORCID Registration Campaign March 2018

ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID.  It is designed to be a life-long unique iD that connects researchers to their research contributions and affiliations.  It is widely accepted, and more and more funders and publishers use ORCID iDs to streamline the fund application and manuscript submission process (check out the ORCID website for more details: https://orcid.org/help).  In brief, your ORCID iD will:

– distinguish you and ensure your research outputs and activities are correctly attributed to you
– reliably and easily connect you with your contributions and affiliations
– reduce form-filling (enter data once, re-use them often)
– improve recognition and discoverability for you and your research outputs
– be interoperable and work with many institutions, funders and publishers
– be persistent and enduring

Most importantly, ORCID iD may be required by RGC for grants applications from 2019/20 onward, and by UGC for RAE 2020.

EdUHK researchers who register their ORCID iDs with the EdUHK Library ORCID Registration Service will have their research outputs in their ORCID profiles automatically updated by the Library.  In return, ORCID iDs will allow the new EdUHK Research Repository on Pure platform to harvest EdUHK colleagues’ research outputs more accurately and comprehensively.  In addition, there will be a new Pure-RICH interface for EdUHK researchers to upload their Pure data easily onto RICH for CDCF and RAE submissions.

We therefore cordially invite all EdUHK Researchers to use our ORCID Registration Service, details as follows:

1. EdUHK Researchers previously registered to the EdUHK Library ORCID Registration Service
EdUHK researchers who have already registered for the EdUHK Library ORCID Registration Service need to register again because the EdUHK Research Repository has been migrated to the new Pure platform.  Authorization must be granted via Pure in order for the Library to continue updating their ORCID research output profiles automatically.
2. EdUHK Researchers with an ORCID iD but have not previously registered to the EdUHK Library ORCID Registration Service
EdUHK researchers who already have their ORCID iDs should register for the EdUHK Library ORCID Registration Service and start enjoying care-free automatic update of their ORCID research profiles.
3. EdUHK Researchers with no ORCID iD
EdUHK researchers who don’t have their ORCID iDs should register for the EdUHK Library ORCID Registration Service to create their ORCID iDs.  Their research outputs will be imported to their new ORCID profiles and they can enjoy care-free automatic update of their ORCID research profiles in the future.

In March 2018, EdUHK researchers may register for the service in person at the Information Counter on G/F of Mong Man Wai Library between 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.  They may also visit https://www.lib.eduhk.hk/orcid/ where they will find the instruction on how to register online by themselves and an Appointment Form for setting up a time for registration at the Library or at their office.  The registration process will only take about 10 minutes.  EdUHK researchers can contact the Information Counter at 2948 6653 if they need further information.
