More Open Access Publishing Opportunities under New Transformative Agreements

The Library has entered into its first Transformative Agreement (an agreement which incorporates Article Processing Charges for open access publishing into the journal subscription fees) with Cambridge University Press (CUP), allowing EdUHK researchers to publish open access (OA) articles in CUP’s journals free of charge from 1 January 2023 onward with unlimited quota.

The Library is happy to announce that two additional Transformative Agreements (TAs) will become effective shortly in December 2023 and January 2024 respectively.

Association for Computing Machinery (effective 1 December 2023)
Starting from 1 December 2023, a new Transformative Agreement between EdUHK Library and ACM will provide EdUHK researchers with unlimited Article Processing Charge (APC) waivers, i.e. free of charge, for publishing open OA articles in more than 500 conference proceedings as well as some 70 journals and technical magazines.

Springer Nature (effective 1 January 2024)
Another new Transformative Agreement between EdUHK Library and Springer Nature will allow EdUHK researchers to publish OA articles free of charge in more than 1,900 hybrid journals (i.e. partially OA and partially by paid subscriptions) of Springer. However, all fully OA journals of Springer as well as Nature Research journals are not included in this agreement. In addition, there will be an annual quota of 14 free OA publications under this TA. The quota will be allocated to EdUHK researchers on a first-come-first-served basis according to article acceptance date.

To enjoy free OA publishing under these three TAs, the corresponding authors must be affiliated with EdUHK when they submit their articles to CUP, ACM or Springer Nature, and they should use their EdUHK e-mail accounts as their contact e-mail addresses. Only their affiliation with EdUHK will be displayed when their OA articles are published.

Don’t miss the opportunity to publish your articles for open access free of charge by the three leading publishers. Please feel free to contact Michelle Yiu at myhyiu@eduhk.hk should you need further information.
