– Course reference books are reserved for the whole year. However, some courses are offered in one semester only. It would be better if the reference books could be made non-reserved during the semester/summer when the course was not offered. This could perhaps increase the use of the reference books. Also, the course instructors could also borrow the books for a longer time for preparation before the course was offered. Comment noted. The duration of the items to be put on reserve is based on the information provided in the course / programme outline or by the course instructors. There are various reasons for an item to remain on reserve for more than one semester, e.g. 1) the title may be also used as textbook or recommended reading for another course; 2) the particular course may be taught in the second semester for another class of students; 3) no specific duration is listed in the course outline.
Comments noted. Since we need to ensure that all students have a fair chance to read the book, we need to keep a balance between the number of books on reserve and regular loans.
– Some of the novels have been classified as Central Teaching Resources and have a two week loan period, and wonder for those rarely loaned out be re-classified as Circulation Collection (General Books). Users are welcome to make specific suggestions via the Online Suggestion at http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/info/faq.php#askalib
Library acquires the full set of school textbooks as currently recommended by the Education Bureau. Although we always try to update the collection as soon as possible, sometimes a particular title may be delayed for various reasons like delay in supply by the publishers.
– Not enough scientific journal and books and need to borrow in Interlibrary loan.
Comment noted and will be followed up.

Library users are also welcome to make specific purchase suggestions to the Library by using the Online Recommendation Form at https://apps.lib.ied.edu.hk/recomform/? Priority will be given to materials related to academic programmes.
– As a student studying social science, I think the collection of social science subjects is not enough.
Social science including so many aspect, however, the MMW library only collect a few in each aspect and it is hard for us to find suitable resources. It makes us always have to lend books from HKALL system. I sincerely hope the situation could be improved in the future.
Comment noted. We are working with academic colleagues of relevant departments to enhance our collections in the complementary areas, including social sciences, humanities, creative arts and culture.
We have implemented an e-priority policy under which electronic copies will be acquired whenever appropriate. We will also acquire additional copies (either print or electronic depending on availability) for course reading materials based on the class size information provided to the Library.
The Library will first invite academic staff to review the withdrawn items and they can select specific titles for retention in Library or in their departments. These books, however, will not be given to individuals as a policy.

The Library will donate the remaining titles to other libraries or non-profit organizations. We welcome any non-profit organizations and educational bodies to contact us for books donation.
According to our records, over 60% of library materials were published after 2000. Recently we have implemented an e-priority policy under which electronic copies will be acquired whenever appropriate. Please check Library Catalog, as many titles published in the past few years are available in electronic format.

– Thanks for your excellent service!
– This library is really great! I think the service and the books are great!
– Thank you for giving me this opportunity to voice my opinion. As I have mentioned, the library facilities at MMW are excellent.
Comments noted with thanks.

E-Resources

User’s commentsLibrary’s responses
– I have the following comments:

1. Whereas some journal articles can be located directly from the library homepage by typing the title of the article, some articles can only be accessed by accessing the electronic versions of the journals under the E-journal link. It is a problem, because it gives a false impression that the library does not have access to a given article. In my early experience of using the library homepage, I was unable to locate many articles because the search results did not show the articles that I was looking for, and so I thought they were not available. Only later did I find that I can actually access many of them through the E-journal link. Moreover, going through the E-journal link is *very* tedious. It would be great if all articles can be located directly through the search function.

2. The results are often not listed in a “logical” way. Usually, the listing with the most word matches should come in the top of the list, but I noticed that the library does not work this way. I often typed the exact title of a book or an article, but the exact match usually came much lower in the list. I am wondering if this could be fixed.

3. While I appreciate the availability of the wide range of E-journals available, I would like to see articles in earlier years be available online. Some publishers actually offer online access to old articles (e.g. in the 80s), but our library did not pay (I suppose) to get the older ones. I recall multiple instances in which I found an old article, which should be available online, but I was not able to access it through our library website. I hope this can be improved.
There are various ways / techniques (e.g. using quotation marks for phrases) to improve the accuracy of searches in iSearch and the Library Catalogue. We encourage users to contact the Library Information Counter or Academic and Learning Support Services colleagues (2948 6653 / libinfo@ied.edu.hk) directly so that we may find out how to enhance the search results; or we may also follow up with the vendor on improving the system with some concrete examples.

We simply cannot afford to subscribe to every journal and its archive. On the other hand, we have already subscribed to 13 JSTOR Arts and Sciences Collections giving HKIEd staff and students access to hundreds of core journals in art and art history, language and literature, linguistics, music, history, Asian studies, business and economics, sociology, psychology, public policy and administration, political sciences, education, and more — dating back to the first issue which sometimes go back all the way to the 19th century.

Users should note that when they cannot get access to an article, they can make a request for an inter-library loan (http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/forms/ill/). Since we are a member of the RAPID inter-library loans network, users usually can get an article not available at HKIEd within just a few days.
Comment noted. We are working with academic colleagues of relevant departments to enhance our collections in the complementary areas, including social sciences, humanities, creative arts and culture.
Until early 2014, SCMP can be accessed via mobile platform via Library PressDisplay (a newspaper database subscribed by the Library). Since SCMP pulled its content from Library PressDisplay, the Library has been looking for alternatives and subsequently, we have upgraded our scmp.com subscription to site license. Users can now use their mobile device and access SCMP under “mobile resources” in the mobile version of the Library Website. (http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/m/)
The Library has implemented an e-priority policy under which electronic copies will be acquired whenever appropriate.

Users should note that scanning a copyrighted publication will infringe copyright law.
Users can use the “EdLINK” function available in most of the Library subscribed electronic resources to check whether online access to the full text is available. Please contact the Information Counter for assistance if necessary.
Comment noted. The Library has already purchased 6 collections of the 民國時期期刊全文資料庫 and further updates will be considered together with other suggestions.
– Please increase volume of subscriptions of E-books, E-Journal and E-databases.
Over the years, we have been rapidly expanding our electronic resources. We have also been an active participant in various local and regional e-book and e-journal consortia, enabling us to attain continuous growth in our electronic collection cost-effectively. As of June 2014, the Library has subscribed to 190 databases, 49,200 e-journals titles and 118,100 e-books.

Both staff and students are encouraged to send specific recommendations, including databases, e-books and e-journals, to the Library any time. We shall evaluate the product and arrange for trial testing. Cost, benefits and quality of the product, as well as user needs and feedback and all other factors will be thoroughly considered before we make the purchase / subscription priority and decisions.

Meanwhile, users should report to the Library whenever they encounter access problems, so that we can get them fixed by the vendor ASAP.
Comment noted and will be followed up. However, since the public PCs are equipped with reborn facilities, we cannot always upgrade the system whenever a new plugin is available. As CNKI generally provides full text in both PDF and CAJ format, users may consider using PDF format if the CAJ Reader is not up-to-date on a particular public PC.

Environment

User’s commentsLibrary’s responses
– All of the chairs in the Library Viewing Room are so dusty, and some are broken, please clean up every day.
– The cleanliness of library shall be improved!!! The keybroad, mat of 7×24, table (reading) are always dirty and dusty. There are no significant improvement in these few years.
Comment noted and will be followed up.
– The area for newspaper reading is used by students as a discussion area. This is not very good for people who want to read magazines and newspaper quietly in the area.
Comment noted and we have arranged regular patrols of the Library. Library Staff will warn users who are found making noise inside the Library.

However, maintaining a quiet study area will require cooperation and self-discipline of all library users. When assistance is needed, users can contact Library Staff immediately so that appropriate action can be taken.
– The sound-proof system can be improved, as there are so many activities taking place at Central Plaza, it is really noisy inside the library. (The design of the entrance can be improved.)
Comment noted. Long-term acoustic improvement will also be a key component of the MMW Library Spatial Reorganization Project. As interim measures to minimize the disturbance, we will close the auto-sliding door at the main entrance when there is an event at the Central Plaza, and will contact the event organizers to lower the sound level as much as possible. Library users are also advised to stay in areas less affected by the noise from the Central Plaza, such as the window side facing the Primary School.
A lower temperature is required for the preservation of library materials according to library standards. In fact, the Library has made some adjustments by setting the temperature higher than required. Better temperature control by zone will be included in the Spatial Reorganization Project of the MMW Library.

Facilities

User’s commentsLibrary’s responses
Heights of all Library tables have complied with standards and norms. We will review the heights of new tables to be installed in the Spatial Reorganization Project.
The 7 x 24 Learning Centre will be expanded and the number of computers will be increased after the Spatial Reorganization Project is completed.
Comments noted. Hot water drinking machines are currently installed on 1/F, 2/F and 3/F and another one will be installed on the G/F after the Spatial Reorganization Project is completed.
Comment noted and the problem has been fixed.
– The lift moves too slowly. It takes ages for it to come. Since Lift No. 8 may stop at each of the six floors of the whole library building, users may need to wait longer at busy hours. Users are encouraged to use the staircases if they are in a hurry or use Lift No. 9 located on the north wing (towards the direction of Block D) which provides access from G/F to 3/F.
– Most students use the photocopiers as scanners because they are fast, so I think whether some fast scanners should be provided. Lastly, more computers should be provided.
– The quality of photocopyers are very poor and the number of photocopyer is small. Many time, when need to make copy, there is no paper in the photocopyer or paper jam without any librarian to solve the problem. Can consider to purchase those with printer+scanner+photocopyer in one machine. Sometimes, scan a sheet and email to the user account is more convenient and environmental friendly instead of photocopying a sheet.
– Printers are not enough, need to wait quite long.
– not enough printers is a very serious and not acceptable problems. Comparing to other universities, numerous printers,
Currently there are 27 printer/copiers available at the MMW Library — 7 on G/F, 7 on 1/F, 6 on 2/F, 5 on 3/F, 1 on 4/F and LP respectively. We shall keep monitoring the usage and condition of the machines and add or replace them as appropriate. About 1/5 of the machines are already 3-in-1 machines equipped with network scanning functions. We shall consider further increasing the number of machines with scanning function when old machines are being replaced.

Users are reminded that copyrighted materials can only be copied / scanned according to the provisions of Copyright Ordinance. Massive copying or scanning of copyrighted materials is a violation of copyright law.
Comment noted.
Comments noted and the number of quiet study spaces will be increased substantially after the Spatial Reorganization Project is completed in the future.
– The discussion rooms have not enough computers and some students talk loudly inside which makes a great disturbance. Comment noted and more patrol will be arranged by the Library. Please contact Library Staff at the counters if assistance is needed in handling noise disturbances or other issues.

IT Facilities

User’s commentsLibrary’s responses
– The number of computer should be increased in order to meet the increasing demand of the computers.
There are over 250 computers and more than 20 notebooks on loan at the counters and we will review the situation from time to time. Although computers in certain popular areas such as the 7 x 24 Learning Centre are highly used most of the time, users often can find idled computers in other areas of the Library. If some computers are unavailable because of unattended occupancy, users should contact Library Staff at the counters for assistance.
– (1.) 整多D printers!!!
We will review the availability of Print-N-Go workstations with OCIO in the MMW Library Spatial Reorganization Project. Users can contact Library Staff at counters to report any problems with the facilities.
Due to budget constraints, we can only replace a portion of the computers every year. Based on our current replacement cycle, we are aiming at keeping around half of the PCs to be no more than 2.5 years old.
We have installed various common Chinese input methods in the computers and we will review the situation from time to time. We have also studied but decided not to install some popular input methods such as 搜狗輸入法 because of security concerns and the adware often packaged during the installation.

– To improve the navigation, is it possible to develop an app that allows wifi connection inside the library so the readers know where are the materials located and can search on their own. Currently the mobile version of Library Website is available. App development is under review.
Please approach any library counters for assistance or use the intercom on 4/F to contact the Information Counter duty staff.
Users are welcome to contact counter staff for assistance handling unseated occupancy of workstations.
Instructions to network scanning are usually posted on the wall or column near the 3-in-1 photocopier / printer / scanner. Users are welcome to contact counter staff for assistance as well.
– Some books contain lots of stains which makes me feel very inconvenient, especially the workbooks (student edition). Please inform Library Staff immediately so that appropriate action can be taken. However, self-discipline and cooperation by all library users will make a big difference.
– 圖書館學習區位較為緊張;
The MMW Library Spatial Reorganization Project has started in July 2014 in order to provide a better study environment.

Students can send their recommendations to us by filling the Online Recommendation Form at https://apps.lib.ied.edu.hk/recomform/?
– Also while there is a bar code for adding value to smart card, there should also be the machine for purchase of the Octopus ticket ! It is in fact quite “unreasonable to have a station ” but without its accompanying octopus ticket machine. It has created much problem for student who wants to copy but the smart card has run out of value Also while there is a bar code for adding value to smart card, there should also be the machine for purchase of the Octopus ticket ! It has created much problem for student who wants to copy but the smart card has run out of value (And also the staff off work !! ).(And also the staff off work !! ). It is worthyn to note that the staff for “adding value ” is mainly serving Upstairs and student often has to make phone calls for him to come down, it is not only inconvenient to the student bit also to the staff concerned. Moreover, this staff does not work till the lib closes ! I think his working hours is only till 8 or 8:30. So after this time, the student is “stuck” if her wants to make copies with the smart card but has run out of “value”. Comment related to stored value function of IEdSmart has been forwarded to OCIO.

Values of Octopus cards can be topped up at the Seven-Eleven convenience store and the Canteen. Enquiries and suggestions related to the smart card or adding value to the print quota can be sent to OCIO directly.
Comment noted.
Users are welcome to make suggestions and send feedback to us in various channels:
– in person at the Information Counter;
– by phone at 29486653
– by email to LIBINFO@ied.edu.hk
– by the online feedback form at http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/info/faq.php#askalib
– Leisure area for light food and designated area for using mobile phones are very important for us.
– 24 hours opening area and light food area is necessary for us!!!
Refreshment area is under consideration in the MMW Library Spatial Reorganization Project.

Services

User’s commentsLibrary’s responses
Remote access to electronic resources by alumni is restricted by licences of individual database vendors. Most of them do not allow access by alumni or require an extra licence fee to be paid by the Library. We shall continue to monitor the situation and discuss with the vendors. Alumni members can check the list of Library-subscribed online databases accessible to alumni at http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/alumni/
All graduates of HKIEd are eligible to apply for Library Alumni Membership. Please see details at http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/alumni/
Comment noted. Unfortunately, the current library system only allows us to generate one Courtesy Notice. In order to allow users to have sufficient time to renew or return item before it is due, the Courtesy Notice is currently set to be sent three days before a loan item is due.
Comment noted and will be taken into considerations.
HKIEd users are already able to request delivery of books available at other local university libraries using the HKALL service (http://hkall.hku.hk/). UGC-funded undergraduate students and most postgraduate students are also eligible to apply for a JULAC library card allowing them to use other UGC libraries. Please check http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/info/services/JULAC_PGDE.html or http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/info/services/JULAC_BEd.html for details.
The set up of the Recall system is to achieve the spirit of resources sharing for high demand materials, and is a popular service in university libraries. In general, users will have at least 14 days to use a loan item if it is on hold or requested by another user. The possibility that the loan period may be shortened is actually stated clearly in the Library Regulations and explicitly printed on the date due slips to remind users.
Comment noted. In general, it takes 2 working days to deliver a book from MMW Library to TKOSC Learning Commons. However, it will take some more days if the requested book is not found on the books shelves or has already been borrowed by other user when the request is being handled.
– Increase loan quotas to 50 copies. Also double the loan quotas for staff dependents. Items can be renewed for 4 times if no hold.
Comment noted and will be taken into considerations. Actually, we have extended the loan period of CTRC and Media items from 7 days to 14 days in 2011, and extended the loan period of Reserve items from 3 hours/3 days to 7 days in 2012. For the time being, items with loan period of 14 days or more can be renewed three times. In other words, a 30 days loan item can already be borrowed up to 120 days if it is not requested by other users.
Library will handle such kind of requests on a case by case basis. Please contact our Access Services Librarian if there is a need.
– Recently, I found that some Maths teacher edition textbooks have been changed the status to “Closed Reserve”, not ciculating items any more and we have to contact CIR counter (G/F) for enquiry. I learnt from the counter staff that these books are frequently borrowed, so it could now be borrowed for 3 hours within the library. Then, I was told that they are restricted to students and teaching staff only. Administrative staff is not allowed to borrow. I am very very disappointed about this arrangement. I understand that some textbooks (not limit to Maths) are very popular and agree to library for imposing restrictions on borrowing out; but if it is not being borrowed by students/teaching staff, why the administrative staff could not borrow! I can accept that students and teaching staff have priority, but could not accept that we are not allowed to borrow these books. We are also a member of the IEd community. As we all know, library is one of the precious resources for all long serving staff and I really hope that our privileges will not be deprived! Thank you! Individual publishers have expressed concerns that the teachers’ editions of their school textbooks are being made available to our library users for non-teaching / non-teacher-education usage. In order to assure the publisher that they should not be worried about this and continue to supply the teachers’ editions to us, we have agreed to keep them to “Closed Reserve” and restrict their access.
– Could it be able to set up a priority system to let staff borrow some multimedia items solely for teaching purpose and extend the borrowing time (more than two weeks) if proven it is for teaching purpose. The Library will be happy to support the teaching needs of academic staff. Please contact the Access Services Librarian or their corresponding Departmental Librarians (http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/research/services/commu.html) for making special arrangements.
– please increase the loan quota for external (eg. HKALL) service. Comment noted. Any changes to the loan quota of HKALL items will require agreement of all other seven UGC libraries.
Comment noted. Individual colleagues could contact us directly so that we can consider their special needs as well as need for change in our policy.
The number of renewals for loan period of 14 days or more has been increased from 2 to 3 in July 2013 after review. We shall continue to monitor the needs and review the situation.

Although there is a small portion of library books that cannot be checked out at the self-check machine because of technical reasons, users should be able to check out any of the 7-day reserve collection books at the 7 x 24 Learning Centre. Please contact staff at the Circulation Counter if you have problem using the self-check machine.
Comments noted. Due to resource constraints, currently it will be difficult for the Library to further extend its opening hours on a regular basis. However, after the completion of the MMW Library Spatial Reorganization Project, we shall be able to expand 24-hour service to the whole G/F, as well as to 1/F and beyond if necessary.
– The photocopy fee may be lowered to 20 cents per paper. Comment noted and will be taken into consideration.
Comment noted. We shall provide proper training to ensure the service quality of Library Staff.
Suggestion noted. Last year, a new “Library Bookdrop Service” has been introduced at the Kowloon Tong Satellite Study Centre on a trial basis. Book return service is also provided in the TKOSC Learning Commons. Due to high operational costs, it is impossible for us to set up a book return service on Hong Kong Island.
The Library has established procedures, such as double checking of received items, to avoid any mistakes in handling items returned via library book-drop. The Library will also conduct investigations for any Claimed Returned cases. No penalty will be imposed if users have returned loan items via proper channels.
– The library classification system on 1/F and 2/F can be adjusted so that it is easier to search under the current alphabetical system, sometimes it is quite confusing where they are located for these two floors. Regular consultation with library staff is necessary, in particular for unselved materials/newly returned/oversized books distribution which is not clearly shown on the labels/map. The Library of Congress Classification (LCC) adopted by HKIEd Library is commonly used by academic libraries worldwide. Users may refer to the Call Number signage on the bookshelf panels and they are also welcome to approach our counter staff if they have difficulties in locating library materials.
– 圖書館的資源很豐富,不過有些書是很難找,不知道放在哪裏,圖書館可以增加一項幫助讀者找尋書本服務(不過不是要讀者濫用這服務) Users are welcome to contact Library Staff at the counters if they have trouble locating library materials. Sometimes certain items are being misplaced or even trapped between book shelves by accident. Users can contact the Circulation Counter and fill out a search request if a particular book with the “Available” status is missing on the shelf.
Commented noted. We have been trying our best to check and rearrange any misplaced items given the existing level of staffing. Users can always approach library counters should they have difficulties in locating library materials. They are also welcome to alert us if they spot any mis-shelving issues that require our special attention.
During peak hours, at least two library staff members are scheduled to station at Circulation Counter to provide library services. We will observe and monitor the situations from time to time.
– Some librarians are really good, polite and helpful.Thank you !!
– Library staff are very friendly and helpful; however, their knowledge about the library system (e.g. circulation)seems to be insufficient.
Comment noted with thanks. We shall provide proper training to ensure the service quality of counter staff.
– The time-slot of library workshop seems only serve for day-time student, suggest hold some workshops for part-time student also. We have offered workshops in the evenings and on weekends in the past, but the attendance was very low. Therefore, we encourage students to form their own groups and send us their request for custom-made workshop to be conducted at a timeslot convenient to them. We shall offer tailor-made workshops for as few as 5 students. Interested students can submit their request online at http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/bireg/workshop_request.html. Workshop materials have also been placed online for students’ reference.

Services – Room Booking

User’s commentsLibrary’s responses
Suggestions noted. There are limitations of the existing iBooking system, especially in introducing new policies and rules. If users come across any abuse or misuse of rooms, they are welcome to contact Library Staff so that appropriate action can be taken immediately.
– For Study Rooms, the session could be shortened, perhaps 2 hours, if students still want to use for longer time, he/she can book multiple sessions.
– MMW Lib – booking for individual study room should be broken into shorter sessions (2-hr) for it would be quite impractical / impossible for students not living in campus to arrive at TaiPo at 8:30am.
Comment noted. We have specifically asked whether the length of each booking session should be shortened or lengthened for the Study Rooms and the Group Discussion Rooms in this survey. The majority opinion is to keep the status quo. See http://www.lib.ied.edu.hk/survey2014_results/special_2014.html for details.
– The booking time of the Group discussion room is limited to one week ago. It is not user friendly. I suggest we can book at any time. Comments noted. If we allow users to make a booking well in advance, it may result in a lot of cancelation or idled booking because it is difficult to plan two or three months in advance.
– Overall, the library is great. However, some points can be improved:
The system of booking Study rooms or Group Discussion Rooms should be adjusted. They should be served on the basis of first come, first served. I have seen for many times that these rooms are vacant but they are booked and no one checked-in.
In order to ensure effective use of resources, booking will be cancelled by Library Staff if a room has not been checked in within the compulsory check-in time. The room will then be released for booking by other users within that timeslot. Users can contact the Circulation Counter for assistance.
According to Library Regulation 5.11, users cannot occupy library facilities by leaving personal belongings behind. Please inform Library Staff so that appropriate action can be taken immediately.
– The booking system is not so good. i thk we should shorten the check-in allowance time, from 1 hour to 15-30 min, to avoid abusive use of study rooms.

Also, most of the time, the librarians would not clear the room booking sessions ON TIME. It is very inconvenient to go to the lending desks to ask for the removal of expired room booking.

what is more important is that some people occupy the discussion rooms/study rooms which booking is not required! I thk the librarians should help clear their belongings if there is no one in the room for 15 min, as they deprive the rights for other students to use the rooms.
Comments noted with thanks.
Library Staff starts cancelling the non-check in rooms manually after the check-in period. However, please understand that it takes some time to accomplish the task and users’ patience is appreciated.
Users may approach counter staff for assistance if walk-in rooms are found not in-use for a long time but occupied with personal belongings.
Comment noted and will be taken into consideration.
-It would be more convenient to students if we are allowed to beep our card to use ALL(including those on the second floor) personal study room at any time instead of need to be booked everytime. Comments noted and will be taken into consideration.
– No matter whether it is a self-study room or a discussion room, the user should be asked to check-in within certain time after the session starts, such as 60 mins for the self-study room. This allows users who booked the room really use the room, instead of no body inside. Users are already required to check in within certain time after the session begins (30 minutes for Group Discussion Rooms and 60 minutes for Study Rooms). After the mandatory check-in period, the rooms will be released for online booking by other users.

TKOSC

Comment noted and follow up action will be taken.
– TKO Study centre (lib ) — extremely shortage of manpower, the counter should be manned at the same time as the main library (i.e at 8:30 when the lib opens and not at 10:30 am. It has created much inconvenience for stduents when they encounter problem (finding books or using lib facilities (particularly when mainly parttimers , they do not have much time to spend in the library) . The TKO lib should also open on Sunday like the main library, the Taipo campus is too far away for students not living on campus and besides, normally, the parttimers cannot stay on Taipo campus till very late in weekdays as they need to catch the school bus / public vehicle to go home after long lectures (after after a days work !)
– The staffing in TKO Centre is very poor. Not only was there no one to man the counter between 8:30- 10:30am, the staff were often found not proficient to answer enquires on library search on web. This causes a lot of inconevenience to parttimers , in particular , who can only come to the centre at certain time. The libarary is also not open on Sunday and closes at 6pm on Sat. The opening hour of TKO centre should be lengthened. the TaiPo campus is too far for students who are already working FT and can only spare not much time to study!
Comment noted and will be taken into consideration.

Currently the TKOSC Learning Commons is open as long as the TKO Study Centre is open to students.

Users can contact our professional librarians at MMW Library by phone at 2948-6653 or by videoconferencing facilities installed at TKOSCLC.
More collections will be relocated to TKOSCLC very soon.

The Library will continue to evaluate the electronic resources subscribed by the Library.
– The database for searching scientific journals (i-search, E-journals) are not user friendly enough, especially in advanced searching and finding paper other than education (sorting option is not enough in subject section).
We shall continue to work with the vendor to improve the iSearch functions to suit the needs of our users.
– The library should upgrade VPN system so the staff or research students can have access academic journals easily from home computer. Other universities such as Hong Kong University and The Chinese University all have such a system so the staff have full access of academic paper directly from scholar.google and other academic paper search engine. The current HKIED vpn system is too much trouble and a total waste of time when working from home computer. I sincerely request the library improve the system. Many thanks! OCIO website provides detailed instructions in setting up VPN (https://www.ied.edu.hk/ocio/hkied-ssl-vpn-service). If there are further problems in the set up, users are free to approach the OCIO Help Desk for assistance.
