| The printing and scanning method of library photocopiers are very outdated and complicated. | Since we have to cater for needs of different library user groups, the Library all-in-one photocopiers are designed to operate with Octopus cards. We have been checking with different suppliers but so far there is no better solution such as support for Octopus mobile app payment or other electronic payment methods. We have also noticed that some users may not aware of the availability of some advanced functions that are only available in some of the newer machines such as wifi-printing, ID card same-side photocopying, scanning to USB storage device, etc. Users may check https://www.lib.eduhk.hk/facilities-equipment/copy-print-scan for details or contact counter staff for assistance if needed. |
| The discussion booths on G/F Quiet Zone are doing more harm than good as the rooms are not as soundproof as students inside them believe. Although signs have been put up, the situation continued. Please do not expect the library users to get up and inform the staff every time this occurs as it really is not the responsibility of the users to maintain peace and quiet in Quiet Zones. In addition, it is suggested that perhaps the wiring on mouses for the computers on 1/F Discussion Zone could be rearranged to allow the mouse to function for both laptop computers and the screens? Many of the computers on the discussion tables do not work (they do not start) and most if not all of the computers will suddenly experience freeze when used. This has been reported in past years' surveys. Once again it is not the responsibility of the users to check the equipment or do maintenance and/or updates. It is recommended that the staff check and replace malfunctioning computers. Lastly, the computers in the PC workstations on G/F have experienced freezing that could not be solved other than restarting the entire computer for at least one semester now. This has been reported continuously to the information center, to which they responded "others have reported this issue too, we are looking into it". This issue began happening after the Windows system update last year. It would be very helpful if the issue could be resolved before the next school year. | The 2 Discussion Booths previously set up at Quiet Zone on G/F have already been relocated to The Lounge also on G/F. Various areas and facilities such as Study Carrels on 4/F and Group Discussion Rooms on 1/F are often in high demand. Since library resources and facilities are primarily set up to support learning, teaching and research needs of students and academic colleagues, there is no plan to expand the booking privilege to other users. Administrative colleagues may consider using the study spaces in Quiet Zones on 2/F and 3/F. Meanwhile, all users can use library facilities without reservation on a walk-in basis when they are not booked or occupied. Their booking status can be checked by pressing the "Check Availability" function of our booking system (https://app.lib.eduhk.hk/booking/my_booking.php). |
